A to Z Book Cooks! Age: 3 year olds

Description: Stir up a batch of learners! Learning the A,B,C’s is so much fun when you link it to great literature and food!! Providing your mini-chef with fun, hands-on learning will help them create connections to the alphabet and literature - a “tasty” connection for all early learners as well as a great introduction to school expectations.
Adventures in the Garden Age: 4 & 5 year olds
Time: Morning class, 8:30-11:30 OR Afternoon class, 12:30-3:30

Description: Come and join us in The Garden of Tomorrow, the beautiful Sunset Mesa Preschool outside classroom. We’ll observe and help along the life of plants, insects, birds and other wild life that comes our way. The students will participate in daily lessons of science and exploration while enjoying lots of water activities, literature, art and many other sun-filled surprises! A Fairy Tale Summer Age: 3-5 year olds
Time: Full day class, 8:30-3:30

Description: Run, run as fast as you can to discover and learn while reading fun fairy tales! Each week a different fairy tale will be introduced with the original version on Monday and then throughout the week a different take on the timeless tale will be told. Your child will enjoy all the exciting activities that will be explored through language, science, math and music. This class will be “just right” for your preschooler!
Mud Pies and Magnets Age: 3-5 year olds
Time: Full day class, 8:30-3:30

Description: A fun and educational science program designed for the wonderment of preschoolers. The hands-on experiments, materials, and scientific vocabulary will delight and amaze children as they experience nature, the human body, crystals, tornadoes and more! Come and join us as we’ll also be spending a good deal of time in our outside classroom for daily experiments and picnic lunches.
Around the World in Twenty Days Age: 3-5 year olds
Time: Full day class, 8:30-3:30
Instructor: Jennifer McQuarie
Description: Pack your backpacks for a fun-filled summer of travel. Explore countries including Australia, China, Mexico and more! We’ll experience a variety of international cultures and traditions through literature, music, dance, cooking projects, and crafts. Our travels will conclude with a “Feast for All” with the yummy foods, treats and games we’ve encountered in our world travels. We’re booking passage now so don’t miss out!
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
· Apply sunscreen to children at home each day before coming to school.
· Snacks: Please send a snack for each morning and afternoon session that your child is attending. Please label snacks as AM or PM.
· Children enrolled for a full day class also need to bring their own lunch and drinks. Milk or juice for lunch may be ordered for the entire session through the office for $10.00.
· Full day students need a bath towel and travel size pillow for rest time.
· Preschoolers need a complete change of clothing labeled with the student’s name in a Ziploc bag.
· Daycare is available before and after class for $5.00 per hour. Daycare hours are from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Back to Basics I Grade: Completed Kindergarten or PreFirst

Description: Calling all incoming prefirst and first grade students! This class is designed to challenge students as they continue to make tremendous growth in the four core academic areas. Each child’s individual learning needs will be met using strategies of small group guided reading, writing exploration, and phonics reinforcement. Math concept development will be strengthened through hands-on activities.
Back to Basics II Grade: Completed Grade 1

Description: This class is designed to challenge and support incoming second graders in basic academic skills. The class will reinforce literacy skills, including reading, writing, and spelling. Small group and individualized instruction will be provided through guided reading. Development of ideas, conventions, word choice, organization, and voice are writing traits that will be addressed. Using a variety of strategies, manipulatives, and games, students will practice mathematical problem solving and strengthen their computational skills in preparation for second grade. Telling time, reading temperature, recognizing attributes of shapes, counting money, measuring, and exploring patterns will also be reinforced through this course.

The Human Body:
An Incredible Journey through Art, Writing, and Music Grade: Completed Grades 2-5

Description: Embark on an incredible journey through the human body and learn about the different body systems through exercise, movement, music, and art. Students will keep a notebook and daily journal as they discover many amazing facts about their bodies. In addition, students will work together to produce a musical featuring the human body and how it works. Their production will be presented on the final day of summer school. This class, by incorporating art, music, exercise, and numerous hands-on activities, will help students develop greater understanding of the importance of exercise, nutrition, and what it takes to care for their amazing human bodies.
Young Writers Club Grade: Completed Grades 3-5

Description: Welcome to the world of writing! All eager readers and writers are welcome! Students will create a children’s book and write an autobiography. Each student will design and edit his or her own magazine. Students will express their creativity while strengthening their descriptive writing, developing their voice, and extending their understanding of story elements and writing conventions. Writing activities will be tailored to the writing level and skill of each participant.
Outdoor Games Grade: Completed Grades 3-5

Description: Mr. Paul will be your coach during mornings of active learning and playing sports. This class is designed to reinforce the skills and rules of soccer, basketball, flag football, and kickball. At all times, teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation will be emphasized. In this class you’ll have fun with a variety of sports while experiencing the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Computer Champs Grade: Completed Grades 2-5

Description: Spend those lazy, hazy afternoons of summer developing your technology skills. In this class, you’ll create fantastic projects using PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Publisher. Photography techniques will be presented. Students will take digital photographs and incorporate them into their computer projects. Daily touch typing lessons will hone students’ keyboarding skills. Each class will end with 45 minutes of fun and games as students explore educational software.
Engineering with Legos Grade: Completed Grades 3-5

Description: Enter the world of mechanical engineering, kid-style! Students will explore areas of mechanical engineering through simple machines and structural engineering as they look at the special properties of certain shapes that make them useful in construction. LEGOs will be used to complete design challenges and create moving constructions.
(Mad) Scientists’ Lab Grade: Completed Grades 3-5

Description: Mad scientists spend their summer afternoons digging into the world of science through activities such as turning lemons into batteries, learning how chemical reactions occur, and investigating how chemical elements combine to create chemical compounds. We will use everyday items to learn and explore science with crafts, cooking, and hands-on experimentation. Come and explore with us!
